Girls Gift Baskets Galore!

I am looking for a gift for child. My niece has been recovering from eye surgery and I am thinking of gift ideas for girlsand I am having trouble thinking of the perfect and thoughtful get well present. I bought her a high school musical gift basket filled with puzzles and trivia questions for her birthday part favors and she loved it. I am looking for something inexpensive and still appropriate. Nowadays, gift for kids are outrageously priced and rarely appropriate gift for little girls. I plan on spending about $40.00-$50.00 max, and I imagine buying an amazing and inspirational get well gift arrangement. I am not looking for the typical candy/toy stuffed gift. I imagine a Princess or Hannah Montana diary or notebook would be a nice gift for a girl her age. I saw gift for girls on sale in the girls section of toys r us, they were typical and over priced. I am not interested in getting any barbies, dolls, or make up sets. Ideally, I would prefer something with long term value, perhaps something that will stimulate thought. What are kids interested in nowadays? Any suggestions for a birthday gifts for girls? The same niece is graduating elementary school this spring and I wouldn’t mind spending a little more money to combine her gifts if its something amazing. I just want to wish her an easy and speedy recovery as well as show her that I’m proud of her accomplishments in school. .
